Yuko Miura was a woman who, along with her two daughters and grandson, died in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
She was identified in December 2019, and her identity was released in September 2020.
Case[]
During the Great East Japan Earthquake, Miura was sheltering in her home with her daughters Noriko and Hiroko and her grandson Ryosuke in the town of Omachi in Otsuchi. The tsunami struck the house, which caused a fire to break out. Six days later, her body was found near her home, yet could not be identified due to it being burned by the fire.
Identification[]
In December 2019, the remains were identified as Miura's after comparing the DNA from her son and based on physical features. Miura's husband received her cremated remains in September 2020. The bodies of Noriko, Hiroko, and Ryosuke were never recovered, but they are presumed deceased.
