William Irving Monroe III was a man found in a shallow grave in Pomona Park, Putnam County, Florida. He had been killed by a gunshot wound to the neck.
He was identified by Othram in March 2024.
Background[]
Monroe served with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Around the time of his death, he lived in Orlando. However, his ex-wife and their children were living in Pomona Park, and police suspect he may have been in Putnam County in order to be closer to them.
William's family last had contact with him during 1980 and did not know of his whereabouts. He was last seen alive by a convenience store clerk on November 15, 1980. A driver for Simmons' Labor Camp also reported picking him up in Orlando to bring him to work on a farm in the Pomona Park area three days before his disappearance.
He was initially believed to be a migrant worker.
