Ventura County John Doe was a man who died by suicide sometime in August of 1922. He was found days later in Santicoy, California.
Case[]
On an unspecified day in August of 1922, several small boys were playing near the S.P. tracks and Edwards Ranch four miles east of Santicoy, California when they were attracted by a strong odor. The odor led them to the victim and the boys informed Santicoy resident S.S. Beaman of their discovery. Beaman in turn informed the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office investigation determined the victim died by suicide with a .32 caliber automatic. The bullet went through his right temple and passed out of the other side. Ashes beside the body suggested he destroyed any means of identification. Additionally, his glasses had a name that was scratched off. His features were recognizable, but they were swollen.
Oddly, the victim partly undressed himself of his fairly good clothing, wrapped himself in some "good" blankets as if he was to got to sleep for the night, only to kill himself sometime in the night.
The victim was buried in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura, California a day after his discovery, but his grave location is unknown.
