Ulster County Jane Doe was a female Dutch settler who was killed by Esopus tribesmen when they raided and destroyed Hurley, New York, then known as Nieu Dorp, New Netherland. She was initially identified as Rachel de La Montagne. However, Rachel was later located alive after escaping captivity from the Esopus.
The raid of Hurley/Nieu Dorp would trigger the second Esopus War which occurred between July and September of 1663. The war ended with a Dutch victory.
All of the people killed in Hurley/Nieu Dorp, including this victim, were buried at the Old Dutch Graveyard at Kingston/Wiltwijck, New York.
