Identification[]

An amateur investigator researching Grumbine's missing person case on Charley Project found similarities between him and the unidentified decedent in San Simon. In July 2014, after a DNA comparison, investigators confirmed with Grumbine's family that he was the decedent.

Investigators believe that Grumbine had abandoned his car and hitchhiked to Arizona. His mother said that he had bipolar disorder, which may have been the reason he wandered off. He was cremated and his cremains were sent to his parents in McAlester, Oklahoma.
