Toorak John Doe was a man whose body was found floating in the Yarra River at Toorak.

Case[]

At about 12:15 PM on 28 August 1981, an object was seen floating in the Yarra River by the crew of a river ferry that was traveling upstream. The object was about 100 meters downstream of the Flemington Railway Bridge. At the time, they did not identify the object; however, on the return journey downstream at about 1 PM, they passed by it again and realized it was the body of a man. At this time, the body had drifted approximately 50 meters downstream of the MacRobertson Bridge, about 750 meters from where it had initially been seen.

Police were then notified. Despite an initial police investigation, a coroner's inquest held at the Melbourne Morgue on 27 November 1981 could not identify the deceased or the cause of death.
