"The Mysterious Blonde From Itu" was a woman whose naked body was found on the side of a highway in Itu, Brazil. Her body bore signs of torture. Based on her well-groomed and beautiful appearance, she was suspected to be a model or actress.
Case[]
On 19 April 1972, a boy in Itu, Brazil, was walking alongside a highway when he discovered the body of a woman. The police arrived on the scene and began their investigations. She was naked, and no forms of identification were anywhere to be found. The first thing police took note of was how clean she was, suggesting that she had died elsewhere and her body disposed of by the roadside. The police also found 32-caliber shell casings at the scene. Her body was taken away for an autopsy.
The medical examiner noted numerous signs of torture. Bruises and scrapes across her body alongside internal bleeding indicated she had been beaten and dragged by her hair; her arms and breasts bore signs of cigarette burns; and lastly, the cause of death was six gunshot wounds. The medical examiner found no signs of rape or sexual assault. Her blonde hair and nails were well groomed, and her overall appearance was noted to be "beautiful". These facts led police to believe her murder was a crime of passion and that she was likely a model or actress in life. The medical examiner placed the date of her murder as 18 April.
Police published her case in the newspaper on 20 April to garner leads and announced a wake where her body would be preserved and shown off. They announced the time and location and invited the general public to view her body. Hundreds attended the wake and viewing, but nobody could recognize the decedent. Four days later, her body was buried.
