From what I've read, the only item with the name was an engraved lighter that may have been stolen. It said, "To John Love Lauri," and they couldn't determine who Lauri was. So I think you are right, it didn't belong to the car owner. There was a business card for "Johnny's Mobile Home Sales" found at the scene, but it sounds like it may have been unrelated to the case. John is a very common name and I would assume the police would've investigated that lead.
