At 1:30 AM on April 21, 2021, on the northeast side of Houston, firefighters were called to the 5400 block of Bunte Street for what was described as either a trash or brush fire. However, when they arrived on the scene they instead found a small burning trailer at the back of the property. The fire was quickly put out, though when the inside of the trailer was investigated the charred remains of a woman were found with no identifying factors remaining on the body.
Investigators immediately began looking for information on the woman's identity, with their first lead being the man who owned the property explaining that she was likely a transient. He had met the woman the night before the fire and allowed her to stay in his trailer to keep out of the cold, though he was not home the night of the fire. Another witness informed authorities that she had been seen often around a nearby store on the 4700 block of Lockwood Drive and described her physical features including a piercing in her chin and a red baseball cap.
Further witness reports have detailed that she may have been from Lubbock, Texas, and had two children, though this lead has yet to be confirmed. Currently, authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire and whether it was an accident or a case of arson.
