"Shong An" is the possible name of a woman who died of tuberculosis while committed to the Stockton State Hospital in 1875.

Case

An unknown woman of Chinese descent was committed to the Stockton State Hospital in 1866. She allegedly set fires and and suffered from 'mental imbecility' and syphilis, and she began showing symptoms of mental illness two years before she was committed. She passed away from tuberculosis in 1875, after being committed for nine years.

A search of the hospital's 1870 census resulted in the discovery of a Chinese woman named "Shong An" who was about the same age as the unknown woman, although it cannot be confirmed that they are the same person.
