
Santa Cruz County Jane Doe was a woman whose severed head was found wrapped in a paper grocery bag and buried in a shallow grave in the Pajaro River Levee in Southern Santa Cruz County, California on February 15, 1957.

The head was found buried on the sand near a riverbank, and was so decomposed it was initially reported to belong to a man. Authorities initially thought the head might have belonged to a man whose decapitated body was found some years ago. It was later determined the head belonged to a woman.
