San Mateo County John Doe was a man whose remains were found down an embankment near a road in unincorporated San Mateo County, California.
Case[]
The decedent is one of five possibly gay men in the Bay Area who were found murdered, tortured, and dumped in rural areas. His strangled body was found near Tunitas Creek along with the body of a man named Raymond Oscar Wilson, who was also unidentified for an unknown amount of time.
A 31-year-old man named David Likens was charged with 3 of the killings. He could not be charged for the murder of this man or Wilson as they were both unidentified at the time. In January 1979, Likens hung himself in prison before his trial could begin, and he denied ever committing the murders.
