Xin Rong was a PhD student who was found in a wooded area near a trail in Chapin Township, Michigan.

Background[]
Xin was a PhD student at the University of Michigan in the School of Information. He was researching artificial intelligence, language networks and text mining, and had worked at Microsoft and Google.
Case[]
On March 15, 2017, Xin rented a Cessna 172 from Ann Arbor Municipal Airport. At midnight, it crashed near Marathon, Ontario. However, Xin was not in the plane and there was no evidence of footprints nearby.
Authorities believe Xin jumped from the plane during the flight and suspect suicide in his case. The cause of his death was severe blunt force trauma.
