Sacramento County John Doe was a man found floating in the Sacramento River on September 21, 1941. He is believed to have been a victim of the unidentified Sacramento Mad Killer.
Case[]
The victim was recovered from the Sacramento River near Hood, California. Due to the decomposition and fish activity on the body, his identity and cause of death could not be determined, but it was estimated that he was in the water for two weeks. There was a hold in his chin, but it's unclear if this is from a bullet hole or decomposition.
Between 1940 and 1941, up to six men were found murdered in the Sacramento metropolitan area. Authorities believed the victims were picked up at either bars or at the West End of Sacramento, transported to isolated locations, and then robbed and killed (although authorities did not believe robbery was the primary motive). Several suspects were interrogated, but no one was arrested or charged in connection with the murders.
