Ruby Lane was a young woman who disappeared in 1993 and whose skeletal remains were found in 2000. Her remains were identified in 2014 and serial killer Samuel Little confessed to killing her in 2018.

Case

Ruby Lane was last seen in Perry, Taylor County, Florida at a party on the night of May 4, 1993. A missing person's report was shortly filed afterwards, but soon became cold by 1994. The case was reviewed multiple times, but no progress was ever made. In 2000, her skeletal remains were located in a wooded area near Greenville, Madison County, Florida. They were identified as belonging to her in 2014 after authorities submitted her DNA to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification.

In 2018, Samuel Little confessed to killing Lane. He said he picked her up from the party in Perry and killed her afterwards. Little's statements coincided what authorities knew about her murder. Additionally, people remembered Little being in the Perry area at the time and Little was known to live at the Skylark Motel which is "just minutes" north of downtown Perry. In April of 2019, he was indicted for first-degree murder in Lane's case, but prosecutors were skeptical that he would be brought to trial due to his poor health and being imprisoned in Texas. Their belief would be proven true as Little died on December 30, 2020 before he was tried for Lane's murder.

Between 1970-2005, Little killed up to ninety women, many of whom were involved in drugs or prostitution. He was convicted of eight murders in three states and linked to sixty-one additional murders, including Brown. The investigation into Little's crimes are ongoing despite his death.
