Penarth John Doe was a man who was found floating in the Bristol Channel near the multi-storey car park at the Esplanade.

- Tattoo on left wrist of horizontal line with a dot above and below it (mathematical division symbol?)
- Two large warts below the shoulder blade on his upper back.
- Burn mark on the right hand.
- False teeth.
- Believed to have walked with a gait.
- Abnormal bending of the big left toe.

- Checked dark green jacket.
- Black waistcoat.
- Dark blue studded shirt with a white and blue collar.
- Red tie.
- Green/khaki combat trousers similar to ex-army type.
- Black socks.
- Black shoes.
- Two receipts dated 24th May 1979 for purchases from Woolworths in both Neath and Cardiff.
