Paul Richard Davis was a man whose remains were found in Quincy, California.
He was identified by Othram in February 2025.
Case[]
Davis' skeletal remains were found in a shallow grave in 1988 by a tree removal crew. A bullet hole was present in the back of his skull.
Analysis of tree root growth in the surrounding dirt indicated the grave was most likely dug in 1985 or 1986. However, no further information as to his identity could be found.
Forensic evidence was submitted to Othram in 2023, who extracted a DNA profile. This was forwarded to the FBI's genetic genealogical research team, who eventually identified family members. This led to the identification of the skeleton as Paul Davis.
Family members reported that Davis lived a transient lifestyle, struggled with substance abuse problems, and only contacted his family via phone every 6 months. They last saw him in January 1983, when he was released from custody on a petty theft charge.
