Norma Jean Anderson was a woman whose remains were found on an island in the Sacramento River in April 2011. She disappeared five years earlier. She is suspected to have died by suicide.
Background[]
Norma, a retired nurse, lost over $500,000 in fraudulent international lottery schemes. She took painkillers which, according to her husband, clouded her judgement.
Case[]
Norma was last seen in Yuba City, California, on April 6, 2006. Her car was later discovered by her son-in-law parked on the Fifth Street Bridge over the Feather River. Her jacket was on the riverbank, folded neatly. Although a person as observed in the river on the day she disappeared, it is unknown if it was Norma. Despite extensive searches, her body was not located.
Norma's remains were discovered on an island in the Sacramento River, over 100 miles from where she was last seen, in April 2011. However, it wasn't until October of that year that her remains were positively identified. Her husband believes she died by suicide.
