Nanded John Doe was a man whose decomposing remains were found inside a drain outside of Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital after a passerby witnessed pigs carrying human flesh in their mouths.
Case[]
On 20 January 2021, passersby walking through the Nanded area noticed pigs carrying pieces of human flesh in their mouths. When they went to look for the source of flesh the pigs took, they discovered the corpse of a man lying in a garbage-filled drain next to the Dr. Shankarrao Chavam Government Medical College and Hospital. This care facility was operated by the government and provided basic medical care at a minimal cost. The area around the hospital is known to house the large homeless population due to this offer, with the chronically and mentally ill among them. In addition, it was a common occurrence in 2020 and 2021 for members of the population to throw their peers' corpses into the drain if they succumbed to complications from COVID-19.
It is currently suspected that the decedent may have been a member of the homeless population and one of the many lives that COVID-19 took in the community, though this has yet to be confirmed. It is also suspected that the decedent could have been eaten alive by the pigs while he was in the drain. Due to the multitude of unidentified dead in India that may have been transients, it is unlikely that the decedent would have been reported missing if he were a part of the local homeless population.
