Mouxia Xie was a woman whose skeletal remains were discovered on 20 May 2002, near the offices of the former Huolinhe power plant in Holingol, Inner Mongolia, China.
She was identified on 23 May 2020.
Case[]
Sometime before May 1997, Xie entered into an illicit relationship with 32-year-old Mouhui Chen. Specific details on the nature of the relationship are unknown. In May 1997, Chen and Xie met near the former Huolinhe power plant offices in Holingol, where they had an argument over a financial dispute. The argument turned violent, with Chen kicking Xie into a ditch and fatally beating her over the head with a large rock. Chen then buried Xie's body and fled the scene.
Chen moved from Holingol to Daxing'anling Prefecture, Heilongjiang Province, where he lived under a false identity to avoid capture. Xie's skeletal remains were discovered in May 2002.
On 23 May 2020, advanced DNA testing led the Holingol City Public Security Bureau to positively identify Xie's remains. Around 1 am on 28 May 2020, Chen Mouhui was arrested in Daxing'anling.
