Miguel Angel Garcia was a man killed in Kentucky in 1998. Three people were convicted of his murder.

He was identified in 2008.

Case[]

At the time of his disappearance, Garcia had been living with his mother in Freer, Texas. On July 4, 1998, Garcia left Freer, possibly to travel to Kentucky, because he had what he described as a "job to do". Garcia never returned home and his mother filed a missing person's report with the Duval County Sheriff's Office in September.

Seven months later, in February of 1999, skeletal remains wrapped in a Mickey Mouse blanket were found in a creek near Pendleton, Kentucky. An autopsy revealed that the victim had been shot and beaten.

In October of 2000, Tony Peak, Patrick Meeks, and Leann Bearden were convicted of the victim's murder. Reported to have met the victim in a Louisville bar, the three are suspected to have devised a plot to kill the victim and steal a kilogram of cocaine he had been trying to sell. The victim would be driven to a farmhouse where Peak ambushed him. Peak then threw the murder weapon into the creek. An acquaintance of the three, who later implicated them as being the killers, was also enlisted to help dispose of the body.

When the victim had been picked up, he was with an unknown woman who Meeks and Bearden tried to bring with them, likely to kill her as well. The woman refused and her identity and whereabouts are still unknown.

A Doe Network member searching through the Texas Department Of Public Safety missing person's database found Garcia's profile, which struck accord as having a resemblance to the victim. Comparison of dental records from Garcia's service time in the Army and mitochondrial DNA from his mother would confirm the match.
