Michael Joseph Fanning (October 19, 1959 - c. August 7, 2014) was a man whose skeleton was found in a wooded area in Brownstown Township, Michigan, in 2014.

He was identified by Othram in October 2024.

Case[]

Fanning was a resident of Taylor, Michigan. In 2014, his brother committed suicide after facing criminal charges. Fanning was reportedly distraught over the death and felt partly responsible for it.

On or around August 7, 2014, Fanning drove his Ford Explorer to Huron Township, Michigan and abandoned it on Bredow Road. He then likely walked east to the back of Brownstown Middle School, then southwest along railroad tracks until finding a secluded spot in the forest. Evidence at the scene suggests he then committed suicide.

Although Fanning's vehicle was impounded by local police in Huron Township shortly after it was abandoned, a connection was not made to the found remains and he was never officially reported missing.
