Miami County John Doe was a man who was killed in a train accident in Miami County, Kansas on the night of December 24, 1928.
Case[]
The victim was located a quarter of a mile north of the Hobart railroad crossing, along the Frisco tracks. His head was crushed and badly cut. Authorities surmised that the victim was a transient who was bummed out on a ride on the Kathy Freight that arrived at Paola, Kansas at about 7:00 p.m. that evening and fell from the rods by accident.
The victim had no identification on him. Although the stub of a money order receipt issued at the post office in Garnder, Kansas, was found in his coat pocket, the county coroner, Dr. L.A. Van Pelt, proved the money order was issued to someone else.
The victim was buried at the Miami County Poor Farm Cemetery in Paola, Kansas on December 26, 1928.
