Mexico City John Doe was a man who was found hanged at the Hotel Mundial in Mexico City, Mexico. He is a confirmed victim of "The Solitary Strangler" (Spanish: El Estragulador Solitario), a serial killer active between 1969 and 1970 who targeted men suspected of being homosexuals.
Case
Between 1969 and 1970, 15 men were found strangled in hotel rooms across Mexico City. The victims were suspected of being homosexual and were killed using belts or improvised nooses after checking into the rooms where they were found. Witnesses occasionally described a tall, young man accompanying some victims. One victim was seen paying male sex workers, and another was openly homosexual. It is suspected that many victims concealed their identities due to the stigma faced by homosexual men at the time.
On 28 December 1969, the decedent was discovered in the Hotel Mundial, hanging from a noose fashioned from a bedsheet. Authorities ruled his death a homicide and connected it to the "The Solitary Strangler" killings. It is believed the killer was repressing his own sexuality and has never been caught.
