The victim had his right foot crushed by a train in Gallup, McKinley County, New Mexico on October 25, 1913. He was then sent to the St. Joseph Hospital in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico where he developed blood poisoning from his wound. Before he died of gangrene on November 1, 1913, he said he was a Navajo chief and had relatives in Perea, New Mexico. No relatives were located, and he was buried at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque.
