Agnes May Appleyard (November 26, 1914 — c. April 17, 1986), known by her middle name, was an elderly woman whose skull was found on her family property in 1987. She was identified by DNA in 2023.
Case[]
Appleyard vanished from Emsdale, Ontario, in 1986. Her skull was found on the Appleyard family property the following year but was mistakenly thought to be from a historical Indigenous burial ground.
May's husband, Sidney Appleyard, was charged with her murder in 1988. However, he was ultimately acquitted in 1990 due to lack of a body. He claimed that May had left him and was living in British Columbia.
