Revision as of 16:21, 6 October 2017
Mary Kate Chamizo (also known by her maiden name Sunderlin) was a woman who was murdered in 1999 and found in Illinois. She was identified in 2006. Her case was reopened after a man convicted of her murder was exonerated after new information about her time of death was discovered.
Case
Chamizo disappeared on September 4, 1999 and was found on December 9 of the same year. A man was convicted of her murder in 2000 and suspicion arose that more may have been involved. Her husband had previously confessed to killing her, yet police were unsure due to his history of mental illness.
The man convicted of her murder was released after new information showed that Mary Kate died earlier than previously believed, which was not consistent with the man's whereabouts at the time of her death. The case was reopened but is unsolved.
