Maria Jesus Llamas was a woman whose skull was discovered on private property in San Antonio, Texas.
Case[]
On November 20, 2016, Maria was last seen wandering away from her family at a local flea market. Security cameras captured her walking through the market and exiting the entrance gate. Authorities later recovered her purse and belongings wrapped around a tree near a creek.
Almost five years later, dove hunters discovered a skull on private land between the flea market and where authorities found her purse. The skull was suspected to belong to Maria, but the Bexar County Medical Examiner was unable to retrieve DNA from it. Authorities sent the skull to the UNT Center for Human Identification for further testing.
On January 28, 2023, her family received notification that Maria's DNA matched the skull and publicly announced the result on Facebook the same day.
Police do not consider her death suspicious, and no other remains have been recovered.
