A blue-brown travel bag was discovered at the Neyetal Dam on August 3, 1997. The bag, which was weighed down with stones, contained the decomposed remains of a body. The body was dressed only in panties and an undershirt and wore a hair band.

The exact cause of death could not be determined. It is believed she had been in the water from 1-2 weeks.

Shortly after the body was found, witnesses came forward stating they had seen a man carrying a bag on a handcart above the Neyet Dam a few weeks earlier.

Malgorzata was identified in 2011 during a routine DNA match between several European countries. The circumstances of her death, including what she had been doing since her 1995 disappearance and how she got to Germany, remain a mystery.

Following her identification, investigators discovered that Malgorzata was last seen by a former school friend in Poland in June 1997. At that time, she was in the company of two men who were probably her pimps and forced her into prostitution. She stated that she was known in Germany as 'Frau Beata'.
