Madelyn Cox Thomas was a woman whose partial remains were discovered in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, in 1990.
Case[]
Her skeletal remains were missing the head, feet and hands and remained unidentified for over two decades. Thomas had been reported missing from her home in Gaston County, North Carolina, within the month before the discovery. However, investigators did not connect the two cases.
Identification[]
Improvements in DNA analysis technology allowed further testing to be undertaken in 2011, which led to a genetic match being confirmed with her mother in 2013.
