Luther Marion Ezell (born December 1, 1913 - April 1980) was a man whose remains were found by bow hunters in a shallow grave near Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 2022.
He was identified by Othram in April 2024.
Background[]
Ezell was born in Randolph County, Arkansas, in 1913. He worked as a farmhand and sharecropper until moving to Ridgecrest, California, in 1949 to look for better job opportunities. In California, he found work, including in the construction of the California freeway network, and raised a family.
Case[]
Ezell’s son died unexpectedly in Arkansas in January 1980. Luther left California the following April, telling his family he was returning to Arkansas to finish the construction of the house Thomas was building for his wife and children. His family last heard from him when he called his youngest daughter from an unknown location two days after departure.
When Luther failed to arrive in Arkansas, his children became worried and attempted to locate him. They were able to ascertain he visited a bar in Arizona, but no trace of his travel after this. As he was carrying a large amount of cash, his family suspected he was killed in a robbery gone wrong.
