Guadalupe "Lupita" Medina Pichardo (16 January 2013 - 17 March 2017) was a girl found murdered in Nezahuacóyotl, State of Mexico, in March 2017. She was identified in January 2018.
While she remained unidentified, she was known by the nickname "Calcetitas rojas" (Little Red Socks in Spanish).
Case[]
Lupita was born into an abusive household, where her parents never registered her for a birth certificate. She was moved from home to home and reportedly lived with garbage pickers at one point.
On 18 March, her semi-naked body was found in a vacant lot in Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico. She had been beaten, bitten on an arm, and sexually assaulted. The autopsy determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma.
An activist named Veronica Villalvazo, known as "Frida Guerrera," took on the case and enlisted two forensic artists to create a sketch of her.
Lupita was identified by her two aunts on 19 December 2017, following the publication of the sketches. Five days later, her mother and stepfather were arrested and charged with murder, child abuse, and sexual assault. The pair were found guilty and sentenced to 88 years in prison. They admitted to killing her because she wet the bed.
Media appearances[]
