Luanda Jane Doe was a woman who was brought to the Luanda Central Morgue in Angola after she was killed in a vehicle accident.
She was initially identified as 26-year-old Edna António Filipe Borja, who had gone missing three weeks earlier. This identification would later be proven false when Edna appeared alive at her family's house. Despite Angolan authorities exhuming the body, no updates have been provided on the decedent's case.
Case[]
On 5 April 2020, a 26-year-old dancer named Edna António Filipe Borja left her home in the Morro Bento neighborhood of Luanda, Angola. After she failed to return home, her family began to search for her and contacted the various police stations and hospitals. They also visited the Central Morgue in Luanda, where they left a photograph of Edna and their telephone numbers.
On 30 April, Edna's family was contacted by the morgue and asked to come in to identify a corpse in their possession which had already begun to decompose. The morgue and police had labelled the death of this woman as a victim of a hit-and-run accident. The body was also the same age as Edna and of a similar height and build. The body also had a similar haircut and some tattoos, leading Edna's family to make a positive identification and the morgue released the body into their care. The woman's burial took place on May 1 and her funeral the next day.
The day after her funeral, Edna showed up at her family's home alive and well. On 6 May, Angolan SIC officers announced that they would be exhuming the decedent's grave in an attempt to re-identify her. Angolan newspapers reported that the decedent was the first body to ever be exhumed from Benfica cemetery after its founding in 2014. No further updates have been provided on the decedent's case.
