Lannie Melissa "Lissy" Albritton (September 18, 1963 - c. July 11, 1986) was a woman who disappeared after going hitchhiking in California in 1986.

She was identified in May 2016, and her murder remains under investigation.

Background[]

Albritton was born in San Diego, California, on September 18, 1963. She and her family moved to Pascagoula, Mississippi, when she was 8. She then moved back to San Diego, California, at 22. Those who knew her described her as "a very loving, compassionate, and kind woman who loved her family and friends dearly."

Disappearance[]

22-year-old Albritton disappeared in Chula Vista, California, on July 1, 1986. She told her family she planned to hitchhike to Los Angeles over the weekend to attend a beach party. Her sister offered her money for public transportation, but Albritton declined. When her family hadn't heard from her in a few days, they filed a missing person's report with the San Diego Sheriff's Department.

Case[]

Albritton's body was discovered on July 13, 1986, 12 days after her disappearance. She was located off of a dirt road leading from Highway 138 in a brushy desert area in Lancaster, California. She was naked with her bra stuffed in her mouth. Her death was a homicide, and she was strangled and died from asphyxiation. She was identified in May 2016 after a Doe Network member submitted a potential unidentified person match to investigators.
