"Lily Grace" was the nickname of a baby girl discovered on 30 November 2014 at Maroubra Beach, Victoria. Her cause of death could not be determined, and there are few, if any, clues to her identity.

Case[]

On 30 November 2014, the South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club was conducting Nippers training at the end of Maroubra Beach, 400 meters from the club. At around 10:00 a.m., a group of Under-7s Nippers, who were eliminated from the flags competition they were having, began digging holes in the dunes. They then uncovered the shallow grave of an unknown baby girl. The adults nearby were alerted by the boys yelling before calling the police.

The unknown baby girl was buried in a shallow grave in the sand. Her body was very decomposed, indicating she had been there for some time, but how long is not known. She was sent to the Department of Forensic Medicine at Glebe, and her body was examined by Dr. Isabel Brouwer. Dr. Brouwer was unable to determine if she was alive at the time of her birth but determined a gestational age of 38-40 weeks, which meant she was a full-term baby. She was not born in a hospital, as the umbilical cord was severed instead of being clamped. Given that there was no positive evidence that she was stillborn and that she was a full-term baby, it is suggested that she was born alive, and the court has jurisdiction.

The unknown baby was named "Lily Grace" by two good samaritans, Filomena and her husband, Sergeant Bill Green, who informally adopted "Lily Grace"; they organized her funeral and memorial service.
