Unidentified Wiki

"Lili Baxter" was the possible name of a woman who was found in a hotel room in Fargo, North Dakota.

Case[]

On June 23, 1951, a woman checked into the Earle Hotel in Fargo, North Dakota under the name "Lili Baxter" of Portage Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. She had registered with a man, supposedly her husband, under the name of a man in Bismarck, North Dakota, who was actually a married father of two that was not present in Fargo at the time. The man left the hotel the next day. Around noon that same day, she went to the lobby desk to pay for the room, which was the last time she was seen alive.

The next day, a maid discovered her body on the bed in a "natural position", with her arms relaxed above her head. A box of sleeping pills was found beside her bed. Her cause of death was of an acute heart condition, yet the manner was not stated. Notes found inside of her purse indicated she planned to commit suicide. Investigators retrieved a letter postmarked June 23, 1951, addressed to "Lili Baxter, General Delivery, Fargo", which contained a key to a luggage locker at the Fargo bus depot. Inside the locker was a suitcase containing clothing.

Despite collecting and analyzing her fingerprints, among other methods to aid in identification, the woman remained unidentified. Her burial information lists her name as Lili Baxter, which may imply that she is still unidentified.
