Laura Ann O’Malley was a teenage girl whose partial remains were found in a river bed near a highway in Santa Cruz County, California.
She was identified by Othram in March 2025.
Case[]
Laura ran away from her home in Long Beach, New York, on August 26, 1975. She left a note for her mother and stepfather, writing that she wouldn't come home until her stepfather no longer lived in the house. A year later, her mother and stepfather separated, but Laura never came home.
On March 22, 1995, Laura's remains were found in a river bed near Rogge Lane on Highway 129 in Santa Cruz County, California, roughly 3,000 miles away from her home. Her remains were initially believed to be of historical origin, until radiocarbon dating proved she likely died sometime between 1977 and 1984.
