Kristin Sandberg was a woman who was murdered in Florida in 1997.
Case[]
Kristin was last heard from on October 2, 1997, and promised to call her parents the next day, which she failed to do. This worried her mother, who stated that it was out of character for Kristin to not follow up on such a promise.
One month later, authorities responded to an area off of Apopka Boulevard where human remains had been discovered under a tree. An examination determined that the victim was a Hispanic woman, at least 5'6", who had been stabbed to death three to four weeks earlier. The following year, a sketch was published in newspapers, leading the Sandbergs to believe that the victim was their missing daughter. Although the date of death, facial characteristics, and a previously broken arm all matched Kristin, authorities discounted her as a potential identity due to their belief that the victim was Hispanic.
In April 2003, Kristin's mother submitted dental records to Orange County authorities, hoping that they could be compared to the unidentified woman found in 1997. In September 2006, investigators visited the Sandberg home to inform them that the remains found in 1997 had been identified as Kristin.
