Koko Nia Labeija was a young transgender woman whose remains were found inside an abandoned apartment in June 2020. She was identified in April 2021 with the aid of the Trans Lives Matter project.

Background

Koko was born on May 29, 2001 in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School from which she graduated in 2019. In the months leading up to her death, she lived in Naperville and worked at the Oberweis Dairy. On social media, she described herself as a "makeup artist in the making".
