Koko Nia Labeija was a young transgender woman whose remains were found inside an abandoned apartment in June 2020. She was identified in April 2021 with the aid of the Trans Lives Matter project.

Background

Koko was born in Chicago on born 29 May 2001. She attended Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School, from which she graduated in 2019. In the months leading up to her death, she lived in Naperville and worked at the Oberweis Creamery. On social media, she described herself as a "makeup artist in the making".
