Kleanthis Konstantinidis was a man who was murdered in 2016.
He was identified in 2022, and his identity was released in October of the same year.
Case[]
The badly decomposed body of a man was discovered along Highway 90. His arms and one of his legs were removed, possibly in an effort to hide distinctive features, such as scars or tattoos. An autopsy revealed he died from a blow to the head.
Investigators found a break in the case when searching a house in Mississippi after the owner died of natural causes. They discovered a severed foot in a bucket, which DNA confirmed was a match to Kleanthis. With this sample, they located a relative of Kleanthis who lived in the United States and confirmed his identity. The owner of the house, Phillip Pointer, is the prime suspect in his death, but the circumstances of the murder are still unclear.
The DNA Doe Project revealed that Kleanthis's ancestry was particularly challenging to trace due to his likely status as a recent immigrant or the child of immigrants from regions including Greece and Turkey. He was believed to have ties to the following regions and surnames.
- Turkey: Alaçatı/Alatsata and Istanbul with the surnames Samiotes, Vasilakis, Stamatakis, Charouhas and Pagavla.
- Greece: Andros, Piraeus, Alexandroupoli and Chios with the surnames Roussas, Drougas and Thoma.
- Romania and Moldova: Bucharest and Transylvania with the surnames Lucas and Pipa.
- Italy: Locana (Piedmont) and Veneto Region (Venice).
- France: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
- Some matches have roots in England and Germany.
- Suffolk County, Massachusetts: the location where his genealogically closest identified relative lives.
