Kandis Olga Fitzpatrick (February 3, 1989 - unknown) was a woman whose remains were found in a clearing in northern Oshawa, Ontario on November 4, 2021. She was last seen in March 2008 and reported missing 2 years later.

Her DNA was linked to the remains 5 days later, and authorities confirmed her identity in February 2022.

Case

Background

Kandis was reported missing in 2010 after she had not heard from her since March 2008. It has been reported that she struggled with drug addiction and often left home for weeks at a time without giving notice. Her father, William Fitzpatrick, launched a Facebook page as an appeal and looked for her in Oshawa and neighbouring cities, to no avail.

Discovery

An 18-year-old woman named Rori Hache went missing in late August 2017, and her torso was found by a fisherman on September 11, 2017 in Oshawa Harbour, Lake Ontario. The remains were confirmed as Rori's following missing person database searches and help from her family, but the rest of her remains were not recovered.

On December 29, 2017, tenants from the main floor of an apartment block on McMillan Drive in Oshawa, Ontario called two plumbers to unclog the drains after an apparent blockage. They recovered a “fleshy-like substance" between 13 and 14 inches long and called police at approximately 7:30pm. Four police officers knocked on the door of the basement apartment and a 44-year-old man named Adam Strong answered. After the officers asked as to what was being flushed down the toilet, Strong admitted to disposing of a body, and directed the officers to the rest of the remains in his freezer. The remains were identified as those of Rori Hache on January 5, 2018.

Rori's blood was found on the walls of Strong's apartment, and semen was found on her body. In addition, phone records placed Strong at Oshawa Harbour one week before Rori's torso was recovered. Police also found a hunting knife that contained a close DNA match to Kandis, but could not be confirmed. Similarly, blood matching this sample was found in Strong's freezer and bedroom.

In early 2021, Adam Strong was convicted of the first-degree murder of Rori Hache and the manslaughter of Kandis Fitzpatrick, despite the latter's whereabouts being unknown.

Identification

In July 2021, Strong gave a tip-off as to the location of the remains of Kandis, and on November 4, Strong accompanied police and pointed to a general area where Kandis' remains were located, namely a clearing by a tree line near Secreto Drive and Brittania Avenue E. in Oshawa. Police located the remains on November 8, and they were conclusively identified as those of Kandis on February 16, 2022.
