Jose Urias Almeida was a man whose partially charred body was found ablaze on November 24, 2001 in a wooded area in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
He was identified in December 2013.
Case[]
Almeida's body was burned beyond recognition and his face had been wrapped in duct tape. It was later discovered that he had died from stab wounds to his neck and upper torso. Almeida was a recent immigrant from Brazil who had arrived in the United States in April 2000, around 1 year before his death.
In December 2015, Almeida's brother-in-law Cristiano Tavares Laureano was arrested for his murder. Police allege that while the two men were visiting the apartment of a shared relative, they got into a heated argument that ended in Laureano stabbing Almeida several times.
