Jennifer Landry was last seen in New York City, New York on July 31, 2002. She was originally from Randolph, Massachusetts.

On August 15, 2002, at about 9am, the nude remains of a young woman were found in the 3600 block of Oak Lane in a wooded area five miles northwest of Washington, D.C. She was found in a fetal position and wrapped in a red Rome Cable electrical cord (UL 10 Gauge NoE13662) that was around her neck, hands, back, and feet. She was stabbed in the 7th vertebrae and asphyxiated to death.

The unknown woman was identified as Jennifer Landry through a fingerprint match in June 2005.

In 2010 and 2017, Charles Helem sent letters to law enforcement claiming to have information on Jennifer's murder. At the time, the former trucker was already incarcerated for the 2002 murder of Patricia Bentley in Chantilly, Virginia. When investigators came to talk to him, however, he refused them both times.

In September 2021, Helem agreed to talk to authorities and confessed to killing Jennifer. He stated that he picked her up from Washington, D.C. to solicit sex for money. When they drove to the area, he killed her and left her body in the area where she was found. At the time of his confession, Jennifer was survived by her brother, sister, and child, who were notified of the confession.

In addition to confessing to Jennifer's murder, Helm also confessed to the 1987 murder of Eige Sober-Adler in Herndon, Virginia. In January 2022, he was charged with the murders of Jennifer and Eige. Investigators are also looking into whether Helm is connected to other unsolved crimes.
