Jefferson County John Doe was a young man whose skeletonised body was found near Jefferson, Wisconsin, on December 2, 1922. He was originally believed to be a woman but was later shown to be a man.
Case[]
The skeletal remains of the victim were found on the banks of the Scuppernong River and had most likely been in the water before being found. He was originally believed to be female. A later examination showed the victim was male and had died of a gunshot wound to the head. The shot was ruled to be homicidal, partly because the victim was nude when found.
A few days after he was found, a pile of men's clothing was discovered on the banks of the river that was likely related. Some of the clothing was blood-stained.
