Jeffrey Stuart “Jeff” Surtel (born February 4, 1990) was a Canadian teenager whose right foot was found on a beach near Silver King Resort in Port Angeles, Washington.
He was identified by Othram in March 2025.
Case[]
Surtel was last seen by neighbors leaving his home around midnight on his bicycle, a blue CCM with yellow forks. He was wearing dark blue jeans, a navy blue T-shirt, a navy blue hoodie, and black running shoes at the time of his disappearance.
Surtel’s right foot, mostly skeletonized, was discovered inside of a seaweed-covered shoe less than 10 miles from the international U.S.-Canada border in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Surtel is among several people whose detached feet have washed ashore from the Salish Sea in the Pacific Northwest since 2007. He was the 6th individual discovered and the first to be found outside of British Columbia.
The RCMP and Clallam County Sheriff's Department released a joint-statement on August 5, 2008 that the foot could have possibly been carried south from Canadian waters but did not connect the foot to Surtel’s missing person’s case at the time. Surtel is now believed to have died shortly after his disappearance.
