Janet was reported missing from North Bay, Ontario on October 19, 1995. Her truck was found the next day and a search of the immediate area turned up her personal items, but no sign of her. Her remains were found in nearby Chisholm Township the following year but not identified until 2002, when a mitochondrial DNA test confirmed the match. Her exact cause of death was not determined, but it is believed that she died of exposure.
