Jane Doe IV was the eleventh canon and discovered victim of the Cleveland Torso Murderer.
Case[]
The victim was discovered by three men searching for scrap metal in a dump site on East 9th and Lakeside. The torso was wrapped in a man's double breasted blue brazer and an old quilt. The legs and arms on the other hand, were in a constructed makeshift box wrapped in brown butcher paper and held together with rubber bands. The head was found similarly wrapped. Coroner Sam Gerber noted that some of the parts looked as if they had been refrigerated.
Later that day, detectives were found the remains of an unidentified male. Both remains were also found in front of Cleveland Safety Director’s Eliot Ness’ office window in plain sight.
The victim, called "Jane Doe #4," is also referred to as "Victim #11" of the Cleveland Torso Murderer. Between 1935-1938, the Cleveland Torso Murderer was responsible for the murder and dismemberment of twelve transients and hobos in which only two were ever identified. Investigators believe there are additional victims. Although investigators had several suspects, most notably Frank Dolezal and Dr. Francis E. Sweeney, no one was ever charged and convicted for the murders.
Other victims believed to be related to the Cleveland Torso Murderer include Lady of the Lake, Tattooed Man, Jane Doe I, Jane Doe II, Jane Doe III, John Doe I, John Doe III, John Doe IV, John Doe V, John Doe VI.
