James Harold Thomas was a man whose skeletal remains were discovered between blankets in a farm pasture in rural north-central Florida. He had been shot in the head, although this could have been self-inflicted.
Thomas was a member of the armed forces and had been stationed in Fort Hood, Texas around the time of his death in November or December of 1965; he was later reported AWOL. His vehicle, a Ford Falcon with Texas plates, was discovered abandoned near the location where his remains were later found roughly six months later.
Initially, he was ruled out as a match to his own unidentified remains via dental records. However, DNA eventually proved his identity, most likely in 2007.
