James Floyd Gibson (born April 5, 1958) was a man who was found deceased in Pennsylvania in 1998.
He was identified by the DNA Doe Project in July 2024.
Case[]
Gibson was found in the Susquehanna River by a fisherman near Turkey Point in Manor Township, Pennsylvania, on April 18, 1998. The body was found naked, with no evidence of trauma. His cause of death was determined to be drowning, but the manner of death remained unknown.
The case went cold for more than two decades until genetic genealogy conducted by the DNA Doe Project identified him as James Gibson from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
His family had reported him missing on February 4, 1998, just over two months before the discovery of his remains. However, the missing person's report was not connected with his discovery, in part because the initial investigation of his body had mistakenly identified him as being White until DNA research in 2024 showed him to be African American.
